Description
What this test shows
This test provides an assessment of thyroid gland activity, and regulation and production of thyroid hormones, including conversion ability and potential autoimmune disorders of the thyroid. Thyroid hormones play a significant role in many body processes, and can affect mood and energy levels in particular, through their impact on carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism. Thyroid hormones also regulate our secretion of other hormones including sex hormones involved in reproduction, our utilisation of vitamins and oxygen, our blood flow, digestive function, and muscle and nerve activity. Analytes measured include unbound (free) T3 and T4, total thyroxine (TT4), , TSH, anti-TPO antibodies and anti-TG antibodies. Optimal thyroid function can help safeguard against pathogenesis of conditions including diabetes, obesity, heart disease and depression.
Please choose test if you would also like to include reverse T3.
