What this test shows
This organic acid test is useful for identifying pathogenic microbial overgrowth in the small bowel. It measures the by-products generated by unfriendly microbial organisms (bacteria, yeasts and fungus) in the small bowel, which are not produced by human cells. Analytes tested include D-arabinitol (a specific marker for Candida, D-lactate which indicates L-acidophilus overgrowth and carbohydrate malabsorption, and 9 other analytes.
