Description
What this test shows
The test measures organic acids, which shows compounds in the urine which are by products of metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. By evaluating the organic acids which have accumulated in the urine, this indicates whether there are any micronutrient (vitamin and mineral) deficiencies which may be inhibiting enzyme reactions in the body, which in turn are crucial for optimum functioning of the body. Genetic variations and lifestyle and dietary factors such as low dietary intake, toxic build-up, bacterial imbalance, yeast/fungal overgrowth, and the impact of drugs and medications can play a part in interrupting these metabolic processes. 46 analytes are measured, evaluating metabolism in 4 key areas – gastrointestinal function (malabsorption and dysbiosis), energy production, neurotransmitter metabolites (epinephrine, dopamine and serotonin), and nutritional sufficiency.
Who this test is for
This test is helpful for those struggling with depression, mood disorders, tiredness, chronic fatigue, stress response, emotional wellbeing, cognition, sleep, muscular/joint pain, premature aging and difficulty losing weight. The test is also used to assess detoxification ability, which may be affected by exposure to stress and environmental toxins, and for those with gut and digestion issues. It can identify a need for antioxidants, B vitamins, minerals, digestive and detoxification support, dietary changes, and methylation support. Subtle impairments in the body’s metabolic processes (as a result of nutrient deficiencies and functional disorders) will not always show up in standard blood tests.
Sample type: Urine
