What this test will show
As with the GI Effects Comprehensive Test, this test gives a detailed analysis of the microbiome, measuring presence and balance of commensal and any pathogenic bacteria, yeast including candida species, fungus and parasites including protozoa, worms and any parasitic ova. It does not include markers for digestion, absorption, inflammation and immunology (please select GI Effects Comprehensive Test (2200)).
Who this test is for
This test is helpful if you have a clinical history suggestive of gastrointestinal infection or dysbiosis (microbial imbalance), and particularly if you experience sudden changes in bowel habits, or have recently travelled abroad, been camping, been exposed to untreated water, had close contact with animals, or if you have consumed uncooked or undercooked meat or seafood. Symptoms such as gas, bloating, nausea, abdominal pain, anal itching, and diarrhea may be a result of a parasitic, bacterial, or fungal infection.
This test is a cost effective way to identify candida and we have therefore also listed it under the heading “Candida Test”
If selected together with the zonulin family peptide add-on, The Gut Pathogen Test can also be used to help identify leaky gut, which we have listed under the heading “Leaky Gut”.
To test for candida and leaky gut together, please select the “Leaky Gut Test” (2207/2336).
This test is not recommended for patients under 2 years of age.
Sample type: Stool test – one or three day sample collection
